Team Mikayla – My Fundraising Story
Mikayla means so much to me and to One Set of Footprints CIC. She isn’t just a young person doing incredible things — she’s my cousin’s daughter, someone I’ve watched grow up with unbelievable courage. I’ve seen her journey first-hand: from the difficult days in hospital to the moments where she’d sing to my nan on demand, filling the room with joy even when she was the one facing the toughest battles.
That strength, that kindness, and that determination to help others is exactly why I’m running the Kettering 5K on 8th March 2026. I want to help her continue putting smiles on children’s faces, just like she wished all those years ago. Every penny donated goes directly to supporting children battling cancer.
Why Team Mikayla Exists
Team Mikayla began because one brave little girl had a wish.
At just four years old, Mikayla Beames was diagnosed with brain cancer. Through years of treatment, pain, and challenges no child should ever face, she never stopped smiling — and she never stopped thinking of others. One day, she told her mum she wanted to help other children with cancer “get their smiles back.”
From that simple, powerful wish, Team Mikayla was born in 2014.
Today, Mikayla is still here, still inspiring, and still leading the mission she started.
What the Charity Does
Team Mikayla raises funds to create and deliver Treasure Boxes — filled with treats, gifts, and moments of happiness — to children fighting cancer in:
• John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford
• Leicester Royal Infirmary
• Bristol Royal Infirmary
• Nottingham Children’s Hospital
These Treasure Boxes are more than gifts. They are a reminder that someone cares, that someone sees their bravery, and that even in the hardest moments, joy is still possible.
What Team Mikayla Has Achieved
What started as one child’s wish has grown into a nationally recognised movement of kindness and impact.
